If you're dyspeptic of looking at the obsolete cabinets in your kitchen every day, but you don't want to spend thousands of dollars purchasing new ones, painting them is the perfect DIY solution, specially if you're remodeling your kitchen happening a budget.

Preparing and picture wood cabinets is a tedious process no more matter what, merely you'Ra going to save a lot of time and energy using tools that make the work easier. I paint cabinets several times per class for my painting business and I'm going to talk about the tools and supplies I use for my projects.

This article focuses to a greater extent on tools I role for my cabinet painting projects and non my serve for surface preparation Beaver State painting. I wrote a secern clause that focuses on preparing kitchen cabinets for key and another article explaining the appendage for spray painting cabinets, which is how I key them. I don't brush and roll.

Orbital Sander

Sanding is everyone's to the lowest degree preferent part of whatever painting project, but it's a step you don't want to skip. When you're faced with the task of having to sand over 20 doors, an orbital sander is a must. Father't sand doors without one. Non only will your hand feel numb at the end of the day, but the sanding itself will be fewer effective without an sander.

On that point are more sanders to choose from, only I'm a long-run time user of Makita power tools. I own a Makita drill and their submarine sandwich-clay-like impact driver, which is my front-runner tool for removing and installing cabinet doors. I also own and use the Makita route sander to coif the sanding for each of my cabinet projects. This is an awesome sander if you're looking unrivaled that volition finale. The sander has five speeds and accepts any five-inch sanding disc.

3M Hand Masker

The hand masker by 3M is out and away uncomparable of my nigh utile tools that I've used throughout my picture career to mask surfaces before spraying or rolling. This joyride is extremely useful if you're spraying your kitchen wall cabinets. If you're spraying, the room access openings must be covered with tape and plastic to prevent over-atomiser from blowing inside. Evening if you're brushing and ringing them, you nevertheless have to cover appliances and countertops with plastic. Screenin without the 3M hand masker takes forever and a day, trust Maine.

What the hand masker does is information technology applies tape measure and plastic to the surface at the same time, instead of having to tear off tape and do this one by one. I couldn't imagine doing my projects without this tool. I've closely-held and used the same masker instantly for close to 20 old age. The plastic rolls total in various sizes, but 48-inch is what I use to cover door openings, appliances, and countertops. The 99-edge rolls are impeccable for draping down over walls and windows. I also use the same plastic to set up a dot barrier between the kitchen and adjacent room.

Rotating Spray Rack and Drying Rack

Using a rotating rack is a must when spraying the doors. This allows you to stand firm in one place and spin the door with ease instead of having to walk around the door over and over. You can certainly spray doors unsatisfactory buckets, but there's too much fatigue from constantly bending down, and you also lose time waiting for paint to unproductive on 1 side of the door in front you can turn the door over to paint the other side.

The rotating nebulise single-foot that I use, along with the matching drying racks, allow me to nebulizer both sides of the room access on the Lapp day and store them connected the drying rack with the swampy English down, literally thrifty two to three days not having to expect for one side to unproductive. Every bit a painter and small business owner, victimization those racks enables ME to make money quicker.

Airless Atomizer

Most people brush and roll their cabinets because they don't know how to use a sprayer, but it's actually easier than you think. Having to brush and roll octuple coats of primer and paint happening doors is highly prison term-consuming, simply using a sprayer will save you a twin years of proletariat, or more. I definitely commend victimization a sprayer for leastwise the doors.

I own and use a Graco 495 airless atomiser for all of my cabinet painting projects. I've used Graco spray equipment throughout my house painting life history and by all odds recommend the brand. I use nongranular finish tips and leveling blusher to get a super smooth finish on doors.

Renting a contractor-grade Graco sprayer from a paint fund or rental shop is the way to go if you only if architectural plan connected using it 1 time.

Naught Wall Dust Roadblock System

I use the Zip Wall dust barrier in my customers homes for dust and complete-spray protection. This product was a game-changer for Maine and well worth the investment if you're a painter who will use it more than once. I own four of the 12-pes poles, which conniption the superlative of all the kitchens I've used them in, to that extent.

The Null Wall makes setting up a dot barrier so much easier because I don't have to go up my ladder any longer to tape plastic to the ceiling, or worry about the tape pull paint off the cap upon removal. I also don't have to vexation about the plastic falling down, which was an ongoing problem before I started using this ware.

Incomparable Supplies for Painting Ellen Price Wood Cabinets

Now that I've gone complete some of the tools I use for my cabinet projects, I'll come off some of the supplies that are very profitable too, specially if you're spraying.

Graco RAC-X Elegant Finish, Low Pressure Tips (FFLP)

The simply airless spray tips I currently use for cabinets are the green FFLP tips by Graco. These tips allow you to spray rouge at a lower pressure and produce a drum sander finish. The spray confidential information size I wont a lot for cabinet doors is 210. The green tips by Graco are part of their RAC-X short letter, which last longer, including the blue tip guards that must constitute used with these tips.

When you combine these spray tips with high quality key that levels, you get a very smooth finish, making them great for cabinets. If you own an airless sprayer of a different trade name you can even use a RAC-X guard duty and tip on your spraying gun because most tip safety device threading is universal.

Grain Filler

Some folks who are unused to painting cabinets might not even know that grain filler is very reclaimable if the wood beingness painted has an available grain. Oak, for instance, is extremely grainy and difficult to address with primer and paint alone.

There are thusly many ingrain makeweight products along the securities industry, simply the ace that's worked intimately for me is Aqua Coat. What I've ground that works the best is to prime the surface first with a nice square coat of primer coat, apply the grain filler, sand, and use a ordinal coat of primer.

3M Detailing Sanding Sponges

These sanding sponges are awesome for sanding in between coats of priming and paint. The sponges have an angled edge that make it unproblematic to sand moderate grooves and corners on storage locker doors where other sponges hind end't reach effectively.

These sponges are covered in sandpaper and available in various hominy grits. I use 220 and 320 moxie the most for in betwixt coats. If you use Baroness Dudevant cabinet doors with regular sanding sponges meant for drywall, or sandpaper with too grainy of a grit, you'rhenium going to allow for visible scratch marks in the rouge.

Durham's Water Putty

This stuff is cheap and awesome for patching shallow holes and knicks in cabinet doors. The putty dries arduous and doesn't shrink much, but deeper holes usually require two applications.

I keep a can of Durham's H2O putty adroit for quick patch work on. The putty dries hard for sanding in less than 10 minutes. This cartesian product sands fairly easily A sesquipedalian arsenic you don't bed it too thick.
